ALAMEDA COMMUNITY LEARNING CENTER

GRADUATING IN 2018

ORNELLA SOTO

Ornella Soto is a senior at Alameda Community Learning Center and is a Chilean immigrant that spent her time growing up in Oakland, California. She is fluent in both Spanish and English, and has been blessed to communicate with both cultures. Her hobbies include various leadership activities, writing pieces about her experiences, and ranting about the necessity of diversity inclusion. She joined Girls Who Code a program that warrants the advancement of female inclusion in tech fields, and joined the Pixar host site without knowing what to expect. As she joined the sisterhood, she was surprised to be welcomed and empowered by other girls. Ornella believes Happy Mind is a gateway for the extinction of false mental stigmas around different mental illnesses, and helps users address and cope with their mental health. Ornella coded the layout and style of the website.

VISION

In 20 years I hope to have accomplished my career goals as well as be financially stable. I want to be a developmental psychologist and stay in the bay area to do a job that is inclined towards social work. I would preferably like to do therapy for the children at a battered women's shelter. I want to have a job that helps the youth while also keeping me financially stable enough to have a family. I’d rather have children young, like in my late twenties, so that I can physically keep up with my children. Overall, I wish to be happy with where I end up and grow as an individual.

ACTION PLAN

To become a developmental psychologist I will pursue experience and education. As of right now, I already have an internship with a psychotherapist in his office but I want to have another internship down the line. Having another internship at an office would give me even more experience since the office I internship at right now is a small boutique office. I will also go to a four year college immediately to get on track and get at least a master's degree. I will major in psychology and maybe minor in computer science just to have it under my sleeve. Hopefully my experience and educational background will land me my goals.
